I am writing to explain why we are changing our bank hours at High Plains Bank. We are extending our drive thru hours on weekday evenings and ending our hours on Saturday mornings beginning Monday, August 28.
We’re learning every day that the way people bank is changing. Over the past few years, we’ve witnessed a significant change in how people manage and move their money.
People use debit and credit cards for more and more transactions. Paper checks are now the exception rather than the norm. People pay bills online, often using automatic payments. Increasingly, the smart phone is becoming the banking tool of choice – and not just for the young folks.
Our role at the bank is changing, too. It used to be that staff working on the teller line spent most of their time cashing checks, processing deposits and making change. That still happens but routine transactions have become a small part of a teller’s job. Now-a-days, staff working at the teller line spend most of their time helping customers solve problems. Customers call or come to the bank when they have challenges with their debit card or when they need help with online banking or their smart phone app. That’s why we’ve changed staff’s titles to Customer Service Representative. This title far better reflects what our staff does every day.
We have taken a number of steps to provide our customers with better support.
- We’ve set up an online banking terminal in the bank. We can show you how to set up bill pay and make use of other online banking tools. We’re happy to demonstrate our smartphone app, too.
- We’ve set up afterhours debit card support. Call us if you’re having problems with your card when the bank’s closed and you’ll reach a person who can help. You can even raise the limit on your card.
- We’re extending bank hours. We know that everyone can’t make it to the bank before 5 pm. Our drive-through will be open Monday – Thursday until 5:30 pm and on Fridays until 6 pm.
- We’ll make house calls and special deliveries. If you have special banking needs, let us know. We can come to your house to help you with online banking or to provide notary service. Next year, we will be excited to launch a new approach called “Bank Anywhere.” We will literally be able to bring the bank to you.
The hardest decision we’ve had to make is what to do about Saturday morning hours. We’ve seen fewer “teller” transactions on Saturday mornings over the past few years – even though our customer base has grown. We decided, after much discussion, that it is better to have our staff work longer each weekday evening rather than Saturday mornings.
We know this decision will be inconvenient for a few of our customers. We’re ready to help. Let us show you how to use some of the tools you can use with online banking or our smartphone app. Or, tell us about your needs and we will figure out how to support you.
New Bank Hours starting Monday, August 28:

Please call my cell phone any time of day – 303.682.0907 – if you would like to talk about our decision.
Very truly yours,
