Security and Privacy

Your security and privacy are our first priority at High Plains Bank. Confidentiality of your records is maintained using the highest industry-standard web security protocols available to encrypt all data transmissions between your computer and our data center. All messages sent to us are decrypted inside our firewall. In addition, your user ID and password are unique to you. Never share your password with anyone. For more information on the bank's security standards, see our Privacy Policy.

Below are some general security tips that will help keep your computer and your identity safe.

Passwords

  • Do use multi-factor authentication for your email account to prevent easy access to reset passwords for other online accounts.

  • Do use a password manager (or your browser's built-in password manager) to create long, random passwords.

    • Do not use personal information in your passwords.
    • Do not try to memorize your passwords.

  • Do use a unique (random) password for every account or website. If one site is breached, it does not put your other accounts at risk.

  • Do not share your password with anyone, especially if they claim to be your bank!

Computer Security

  • Do keep your devices up-to-date to protect against viruses, malware, and other online threats.

  • Do set a lock on your smartphone so that if it is stolen, the thief cannot easily gain access to your online accounts.

Phishing

  • Do not click links from unknown sources. Links in emails and advertising are often a way cybercriminals can compromise your computer. If it seems suspicious delete the email and if needed contact the owner through another means; i.e. phone call or through their official website.

  • Do not be fooled by logos. Emails can easily be spoofed, they may appear to be from your bank, but actually may come from hackers.

  • Do not feel rushed. Be wary of communications that implore you to act immediately, offers something that sounds too good to be true, or asks for personal information. High Plains Bank will never ask you for private information through unsecured email.

  • Do not send personal or financial information in an email. Email is not a secure method of transfer. Use "Start a Conversation" in your mobile app or online banking.
